Walter Bruggeman to speak at Biennial Consultation
January 21-25 2009
|
I want to invite you to plan now to attend ATFE’s Biennial Consultation “Claiming a Prophetic Imagination in Theological Field Education”, to be held in Atlanta in January of 2009. We are thrilled to announce that Walter Bruggemann, the well-known Biblical scholar, will be leading us in reflecting on how we might engage prophetic imagination with our students and in our work. We will gather at an historic hotel in mid-town Atlanta, the Georgian Terrace Hotel (map). We will meet Wednesday afternoon through a celebratory Saturday night banquet, and you will want to be present for the entire week. In addition to Dr. Bruggemann’s outstanding leadership, we will also host over twenty workshops, to be lead by new and highly experienced field educators on a range of topics including theological reflection, new director’s workshop, excellence in field education manuals, and so forth. This is also an excellent opportunity to network with your peers and receive inspiration and support for your work. Details about workshops, registration details and costs will be posted on the website in the summer of 2008. We look forward to this time of sharing together! Emily Click, Harvard Divinity School |
A message from the ATFE Chairperson:
ATFE is active group of professionals who combine scholarly interests in teaching ministerial leadership with practical concerns about building Christian communities. We are actively engaged in research about teaching in diverse contexts, about mentoring, and about emerging models for worship and service to others. Small groups of field educators meet to compare research, engage in writing, and present models for how to engage students in international field education, field education for social change, etc. Other meetings convene around caucus groups, such as the Evangelical Caucus and the Canadian caucus. I find this an exciting time to lead our association because of the many ways you are thinking creatively and imagining new ways to educate for leadership in faith communities.
